NEDC Event

Assessing and Treating Eating Disorders in Primary Care - BRISBANE NORTH

About this event

NEDC are delighted to host guest speaker Associate Professor Warren Ward, Director of the Queensland Eating Disorder Service (QuEDS), Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, and Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Queensland.

He serves as Chair of the QLD Health Eating Disorders Advisory Group and is past Secretary of Australia and New Zealand Academy for Eating Disorders (ANZAED). He has a wealth of experience and clinical expertise in eating disorders and is a co-author of the RANZCP Clinical Practice Guidelines for Eating Disorders.

Join us at 6:30pm for a free casual dinner, with the workshop commencing at 7:00pm.

Eating disorders affect approximately 9% of Australians, have one of the highest mortality rates of any mental illness, and require a multidisciplinary approach. When armed with the right information, screening and referral tools, GPs, psychologists, dietitians, and primary care professionals play an important role in early identification and supporting recovery.

The National Eating Disorders Collaboration (NEDC) and Brisbane North PHN invite GPs and allied health professionals to a 2-hour professional development workshop on eating disorders in primary care. The workshop will cover screening and assessment, management and treatment, supporting patient and carers, recovery and essential elements of care, referral pathways, support services, and resources.
