ANZAED 2023 (2-Day) Workshop, Gold Coast: Family Based Treatment for Adolescents with Anorexia Nervosa (FBT)
Australia & New Zealand Academy for Eating Disorders (ANZAED)
About this event
Family Based Therapy is recognised as the first line, evidence-based manualised treatment of children and adolescents (e.g. 2017 NICE; 2014 RANZCP guidelines). FBT is a behavioural treatment that utilizes the family as a key resource for recovery in the home environment. The treatment progresses through three phases over approximately 20 sessions.
The aims of this two-day workshop will be to provide intensive practical training in the application of this model including:
- Theoretical underpinnings of FBT
- Establishing and defining the roles of the multidisciplinary team within the model
- Detailed descriptions of each treatment phase
- How to implement FBT as an integrated care model across various treatment settings
The workshop format includes a combination of didactic presentation, discussion of clinical material, demonstration of specific interventions and skills, structured reflections, role plays, and readings.
The workshop is suitable for clinicians working with children and adolescents with eating disorders, including psychiatrists, psychologists, psychotherapists, counsellors, social workers, occupational therapists, medical practitioners and nurses to name a few.
Prerequisite for the workshop includes: Experience in the assessment and treatment of eating disorders.
