Stepped Care Research Project

About this study

La Trobe University and Eating Disorders Victoria are seeking research participants to be involved in a study about stepped care treatment for eating disorders. If eligible, participants will receive no-cost evidence-based treatment for eating disorders (either Cognitive Behaviour Therapy [CBT] for Eating Disorders or Guided Self-Help [GSH] for Eating Disorders). Treatment is provided by provisional psychologists undertaking their masters degree under the supervision of a senior psychologist with extensive experience in treating eating disorders.

ParticipantsParticipants must:

- Be 18 years or over
- Be experiencing an eating disorder (including other specified eating disorders (OSFED))
- Have a BMI greater than 17.5kg/m2
- Be willing to have an assessment with their GP prior to and during participation (for medical stability)
- Be medically stable
- If attending appointments via telehealth, have access to a computer/tablet/phone with a camera and that is capable of running video-conferencing software
What is InvolvedParticipants will be randomly allocated to either a CBT-E or GSH group for their treatment with a provisional psychologist. Participants will incur no cost for receiving treatment. Treatment is offered either in-person at Eating Disorders Victoria in Abbotsford, or via telehealth for those who cannot reasonably attend the clinic. Participation is therefore open to anyone who is living in Australia.
