Guidelines for Body Image and Eating Disorder Prevention in Dance
Recognising the unique pressures faced by athletes such as dancers, NEDC has collaborated with The Australian Ballet to develop the Body Image and 'Disordered Eating Guidelines: A Framework for Action and Prevention of Eating Disorders'. These guidelines provide practical strategies to foster a supportive environment, promote positive body image, and reduce the risk of disordered eating in performing arts and dance communities.
The framework aligns with the National Eating Disorder Strategy 2023-2033 by emphasising prevention, early intervention, and the creation of safe environments that protect against stigma and harm. This initiative is part of NEDC’s broader commitment to equipping coaches, educators, and organisations with evidence-based tools to support athletes and performers in maintaining both physical and mental well-being.
