NEDC is funded by the Australian Government through the Department of Health, Disability and Aging. Our work is funded and delivered within financial years.
As aligned with NEDC's vision, mission and objectives and underpinned by the National Eating Disorders Strategy 2023-2033, NEDC will be working on the following projects during the 2025/26 year:
National Strategy Implementation
NEDC is funded to coordinate and drive the implementation of the National Eating Disorders Strategy. To support this work, NEDC will deliver the following activities:
- National Strategy Implementation Network: NEDC will continue to facilitate the active and engaged National Strategy Implementation Network, comprising sector leaders from across Australia. The Implementation Network provides strategic advice, monitors progress and champions National Strategy activation and implementation.
- National Strategy Sprint Groups: NEDC will facilitate ‘sprint group’ meetings to support sector collaboration and foster innovative solutions to shared system building challenges. This initiative aims to connect and activate stakeholders to develop and implement changes. The key focus for the next 12 months will be on suicide prevention, support pathways for the LGBTQIA+ community, longstanding eating disorders, and rural and remote system building.
- State and territory activation: NEDC will systematically engage with governments and leaders in all states/and territories to support strategic planning and action including increased national/jurisdictional coordination.
- Consultation support: NEDC will continue to provide responsive consultation support to stakeholders conducting implementation projects in a range of contexts. Need support with your work? Reach out to use at info@nedc.com.au
- National Strategy Forums: NEDC will provide two online National Strategy Implementation Forums in this next 12 months. These events host the NEDC team and others from the sector, providing updates on system building activities, sharing resources, and offering opportunities for others to connect in the work.
- Communications: NEDC will keep our members updated on the progress of the National Strategy, providing information on our activities and those from across the sector. Keep an eye on your inbox for our member eBulletin and follow us on LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and X for more regular updates. Not a member of NEDC? You can sign up for free here.
- Evaluation: In line with the National Strategy Implementation Evaluation Framework, NEDC is in the activation phase of the National Strategy Implementation. During this phase NEDC will collect and analyse evaluation data to monitor and track implementation process, progress, outcomes, and impact.
Workforce Development
Increase workforce capacity to respond to eating disorders, disordered eating and body image concerns across the system of care focusing on three areas:
- Building the future workforce
- Upskilling the current workforce
- Workforce quality frameworks and oversight

This includes the national Eating Disorders in Tertiary Curricula EAG, the national Collaborative Network, delivery of Identification Modules (with others to follow), and hosting the national educator database.
Training Approvals

This work will be completed in collaboration with people with lived experience and those that support the lived experience workforce. Completion of the Strategy will occur in 2026/27.

System building initiatives
Primary Health Networks
NEDC will provide a systematic and targeted support to PHNs to support alignment and implementation of the National Strategy. You can read more about our work with PHNs here and please reach out if you work for a PHN and would like to deliver eating disorder projects.
Eating Disorder Safe principles
NEDC will continue to support the rollout of the ED Safe principles across community and undertake specific translation initiatives aimed at integrating the Eating Disorder Safe principles into (1) key areas of eating disorder risk, and (2) key systems which can influence wider uptake. NEDC will also establish an ‘ED Safe Champions’ network, for early adopters of ED Safe approaches to collaborate around implementation challenges.
Right Care, Right Place
NEDC will continue to partner with four Primary Health Networks (PHNs): Adelaide, North Western Melbourne, Northern Territory (Top End and Central Australia), and Western Queensland to deliver the Right Care Right Place (RCRP) project which seeks to establish a more accessible and integrated system of care through the introduction of an Eating Disorder Coordinator model, aligned with our stepped system of care framework.
First Nations
NEDC will continue to walk alongside First Nations people with lived experience, researchers, clinicians and organisations, supporting First Nations-led initiatives for eating disorder prevention, identification, care and healing. We will also collaborate to ensure whole-of-sector and whole-of-community resources created by NEDC are culturally aligned.
Holding Hope Guide
NEDC will provide implementation support to clinicians and services for the Holding Hope Guidance document and workbooks through collaborative and upskilling activities. This work will be conducted in collaboration with Holding Hope author, Shannon Calvert.
Eating disorders and higher weight
NEDC will continue to work in partnership with the EDIT Collaboration to facilitate seven national working groups to drive system improvements for people experiencing eating disorders and are of higher weight. This work spans screening and assessment, treatment pathways, workforce development, weight stigma, health campaigns and promotion, and Medicare. NEDC continues to support the implementation of the Management of Eating Disorders in People with Higher Weight: Clinical Practice Guideline through upskilling activities and resource development.
Delivery of evidence-based resources, tools, and information
NEDC develops additional evidence-based resources and tools and disseminates information to the community in response to identified needs. New resources are promoted to our members via eBulletins and on our social media platforms.
Sector Collaboration
NEDC provides a vital collaborative and strategic platform for the Australian eating disorder sector, generating a unified sector voice and coordinated national action. To inform this work, NEDC engages a significant group of stakeholders, including clinicians, researchers, people with lived experience, families, and other experts and we proactively engage with all state and national eating disorder lived experience and service development organisations to support coordination of activities and reduce duplication. NEDC will continue to promote resources, services, and training from all state and national eating disorder organisations through NEDC’s communication platforms.
Impartial advice to Government
NEDC plays a vital role in coordinating investment and providing expertise and impartial policy advice to the Australian Government.
