In addition to clinical experience, ongoing supervision, and continuing professional development, to be awarded the ANZAED Eating Disorder Credential clinicians are required to complete two core trainings:
  • Introduction to eating disorders for health professionals; and
  • Evidence-based eating disorder treatment model (mental health professionals); or
  • Evidence-informed dietetic practice for eating disorders (dietitians)

In January 2022, NEDC commenced an approvals process for eating disorder trainings relevant to the Credential. Since the 1 July 2022, all clinicians applying for the Credential are required to have completed approved training in order to be awarded the Credential. Training completed prior to 2022 have not been approved by NEDC and are therefore not recognised as meeting criteria for the ANZAED Eating Disorder Credential.

The National Framework for Eating Disorders Training – A guide for training providers (the Training Framework) has been developed by NEDC, with the contribution of training providers across Australia. The Training Framework provides the basis upon which training will be approved. Its purpose is to align with the Credential criteria and national standards, ensuring consistency and quality across the trainings required for the Credential. Through its implementation, the goal is to build a skilled and competent national workforce that can provide safe and effective care and treatment for people experiencing an eating disorder.

For training providers

**Please ensure you read all of the instructions provided below before submitting your application for approval of training**

Training approval is only provided for the following training as aligned with the Credential:
  • Introduction to eating disorders for health professionals
  • Evidence-based eating disorder treatment model
  • Evidence-informed dietetic practice for eating disorders

Training can be either a live online or face-to-face training, an online self-paced training, or a mixed format training. Further information on training requirements are described within the Training Framework.

The Training Framework has been designed to support and guide training providers in the design, structure, and content of eating disorder training for mental health professionals and dietitians.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach the team at NEDC at training@nedc.com.au. We are here to support all training providers to meet the Standards outlined in the Training Framework and to answer any questions you may have.

Applying for approval of training

**Please ensure you read all of the instructions provided below before submitting your application for approval of training**

The Training Framework underpins a training providers application for approval of training.

To apply for approval of training, training providers will need to follow these steps:

1. Read the National Framework for Eating Disorders Training - A guide for training providers

2. Complete the Application Form (PDF) relevant to the type of training (introduction to eating disorders, evidence-based treatment model, evidence-informed dietetic practice for eating disorders). Please see panel on right-hand side of this page to download the relevant form. Using this form, training providers will including a summary of the training and training provider and address each General Standard and Content Standard.

3. Compile any supporting documents which provide evidence of the General and/or Content Standards.

This must include:
  • Application Form (introduction to eating disorders, evidence-based treatment model OR evidence-informed dietetic practice)
  • Evidence of learning outcomes
  • Evidence of preparatory activities (not relevant for Introductory training)
  • Evidence of lived experience contribution and/or input to training
  • Evidence of assessment of learning
  • Evidence of training evaluation

This may include:
  • PowerPoint slides
  • Link/s to eLearning program and/or modules
  • Supporting clinical resources provided to trainees
  • Links to videos, audio, recordings used within the training

5. Submit the application via the NEDC website, including training provider details and information about the training

6. Provide any supporting documents to NEDC. This can be done via email, zip files, Dropbox, WeShare, Microsoft SharePoint, or other sharing platform. Please note, if you are sending through email, please save PowerPoint files to PDF and/or send documents using a zip file. If you are having difficulty sending your documents through, please contact NEDC at training@nedc.com.au

If when you are completing your application you recognise that your training does not meet all the General Standards and/or Content Standards, we recommend you making the required amendments to your training before submitting your application for approval. This will prevent any delays in the assessment and approval process.

There is no financial cost associated with the approval process.

All intellectual property related to the training remains the property of the training provider and not of NEDC. NEDC store training materials for the purpose of assessing the application for approval and documents will be deleted following the assessment and outcome process.

Further information regarding applying for approval and training standards and competency areas are included in the National Framework for Eating Disorders Training – A guide for training providers.

Feedback on your application

Assessment of and response to applications by NEDC will take a maximum of three weeks. NEDC aims to support a strong training provider workforce and ensure availability and accessibility of training across Australia. As such, NEDC will be available to support training providers to align content with the General and Content Standards outlined in the Framework.

To receive approval, the training needs to show evidence of the inclusion of all General Standards and Content Standards as outlined in the Training Framework. If there is incorrect information or one or more Standards are not evident or adequately covered in your training, NEDC will request further information or for an amendment to be made.

If your training fails to meet more than 15% of the General Standards and Content Standards, you will be requested to resubmit your full application for approval of training.

Approved training will be published and promoted through NEDC and ANZAED member bases, websites, and social media platforms. Training providers can include approval status in the promotion and certification of their training. Trainings are approved for a length of two years. After this time, training providers need to reapply for approval of their training.

Trainings will be listed on the NEDC website as soon as they receive approval.

Documents to help you prepare for your application

We have developed the following checklists that training providers can use to ensure they have addressed each Standard. These checklists can also be used by training providers not seeking approval to ensure their training aligns with the Guiding Principles.

  • Guiding Principles Checklist

  • General Standards Checklist

  • Content Standards Checklist - Introduction to Eating Disorders

  • Content Standards Checklist - Evidence-based treatment model (mental health)

  • Content Standards Checklist - Evidence-informed dietetic practice

If you have questions about the Framework and/or training approvals process, please contact us at training@nedc.com.au
