About this event
Dr Elizabeth Rieger presents 12 hours of live in-person online training in Interpersonal Psychotherapy for Eating Disorders via Zoom (times are in AEST)
The primary aim of this workshop is to introduce attendees to using IPT in the context of eating disorders, either as a stand-alone treatment or as a component of Enhanced Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT-E) for eating disorders. Attendees will develop knowledge and skills for addressing interpersonal factors that are relevant to the onset, maintenance and response to treatment of these conditions.
The workshop will entail:
• Discussion of recent theoretical models (such as the transdiagnostic model) highlighting the interpersonal underpinnings of eating disorder symptoms;
• Discussion of the research base for IPT in eating disorders;
• Discussion and demonstration of skills for undertaking an interpersonal inventory so as to identify the interpersonal factors involved in the maintenance of eating disorder symptoms, and hence develop a formulation and treatment goals on this basis;
• Presentation of key treatment strategies for targeting the interpersonal factors involved in the maintenance of eating disorder symptoms.
The workshop is suitable for students and clinicians working in the area of mental health who are seeking to gain skills in the assessment and treatment of interpersonal factors relevant to the maintenance of eating disorders.
Learning outcomes:
• Understand the relevant theoretical frameworks and empirical basis supporting the use of IPT for people with eating disorders.
• Develop introductory-level skills for implementing IPT for clients with eating disorders.
• Understand the applications of variants of standard IPT (i.e., maintenance IPT and group IPT).
