TITLE: Ten-session Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT-T) for non-underweight eating disorders

TRAINING SUMMARY: The 2-day workshop will provide a thorough overview of how to deliver ten-session Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT-T) for non-underweight eating disorders.

Presentation will involve a mix of didactic, video examples of techniques, small group exercises, role plays, and individual reflection exercises, and cover the following topics:

• The evidence-based principles for delivering effective CBT;

• The evidence related to the effectiveness of 10-session CBT; • An overview of CBT-T and how it differs from CBT-E;

• Key skills including use of early and rapid nutritional change, exposure, based on inhibitory learning principles, behavioural experiments, weighing, body-image work, relapse prevention; • Effective supervision of CBT-T;

• Exploration of how attendees can implement CBT-T in their own clinical setting.

LEARNING OUTCOMES: Participants will be able to summarise the evidence-based principles for delivering effective CBT

• Participants will have an in-depth understanding of how to effectively deliver CBT-T

• Participants will develop an awareness of their personal and institutional barriers to using shorter therapy for CBT-T and have evolved behavioural experiments to test beliefs around the conduct of this therapy

ABOUT THE PRESENTER: Matthew Flinders Distinguished Professor Tracey Wade has worked as a clinician and researcher in eating disorders for over 30 years. In 2015 she was elected a Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia. In 2016 she was made an Inaugural Honorary Fellow of the Australian Association for Cognitive and Behaviour Therapy. In 2017-18 she was the president of the Eating Disorder Research Society. In 2019 she was appointed Fellow of the APS and was a recipient of the Australia and New Zealand Academy of Eating Disorders Distinguished Achievement Award, and in 2020 she was the recipient of the Academy of Eating Disorders Outstanding Clinician Award. She is the director of the Flinders Institute for Mental Health and Wellbeing, the Blackbird Initiative, and the Flinders University Services for Eating Disorders (FUSED). She has cowritten 3 books (including a therapist manual on CBT-T) and has over 250 publications in peer reviewed journals.
