Exploring Eating Disorders with an OT Lens

Exploring Eating Disorders with an OT Lens

Occupational Therapy Australia

About this event

Join OTA at this Hot Topic as they explore the role of OT in eating disorders.

Eating disorders are complex mental illnesses that affect people physically and psychologically. In addition, people with an eating disorder experience reduced quality of life, increased functional impairment, and their relationships are often compromised.

Occupational therapy is an underutilised and underrepresented profession in the field of eating disorders. This presents as a unique and critical opportunity to promote an occupationally focused approach to treatment and recovery.

Key areas that will be covered include:

  • What are eating disorders and different eating disorder diagnoses

  • What are the functional impacts of eating disorders

  • The unique contribution of occupational therapy in eating disorders

  • Assessment of functional impact of eating disorders

  • Addressing functional impacts of eating disorders

  • Overview of common evidence-based treatments for eating disorders (incorporating an OT perspective)

This session is suitable for:

Any occupational therapists with an interest in eating disorders
