Workforce Training & Professional Development Database - Speech pathologists

This database has been created to enable efficient identification of eating disorder training and professional development opportunities for a wide range of workforces with a role in eating disorder prevention, identification, initial response, treatment, and/or psychosocial and recovery support (as aligned with the NEDC Stepped System of Care and the National Eating Disorders Strategy 2023-2033).

How to use this database

Please select your specific professional group using the Audience dropdown. This will list all trainings currently available in Australia for this professional group. You can further filter by role in the stepped system of care (e.g., identification) and by format (self-paced, live online, or in-person delivery).

Within each training tile, you will find a description of the training, duration, learning level classification (beginner, intermediate, or advanced), cost, accreditations and approval status, and contact email and website for the training provider

A note on learning level classifications

Trainings have been classified as beginner, intermediate, or advanced. These are defined as:

  • Beginner: These trainings provide foundational information about eating disorders which allows a clinician or practitioner to fulfil the role of prevention, identification and initial response. Beginner trainings may be tailored to a specific workforce/professional group, or to a range of workforces/professional groups. Following these trainings, clinicians or practitioners will have an understanding of eating disorders, disordered eating, and body image, be able to identify warning signs and respond accordingly, understand the system of care, and for some, complete screening and assessment. Beginner trainings align with 'Introduction to Eating Disorders for Health Professionals' training as required for the ANZAED Eating Disorder Credential. 
  • Intermediate: These trainings should be completed after a beginner course and provide learning opportunities that are specific to the workforce/professional group and support them to fulfill their role in the system of care. For example, learning an evidence-based treatment model for mental health professionals (as aligned with the ANZAED Eating Disorder Credential), learning about medical monitoring and treatment for GPs. Following these trainings, clinicians will have a practical knowledge and skills for supporting people experiencing eating disorders, specific to their role and context.
  • Advanced: These trainings are targeted content trainings that provide information and skill development in a specific learning area. These trainings should be completed following beginner and intermediate and have a specific content or advanced concepts focus. Following these trainings, clinicians will have specialised knowledge and skills in an area relevant to eating disorders response, treatment and/or support. For example, eating disorders and diabetes for dietitians, meal support for hospital staff, or motivational interviewing for different professional groups, or advanced topics in a specific treatment approach.
