Discovering the Healthy Self comprises two parts tailored for individuals over 18 recovering from eating disorders. Both Part A and Part B span six weeks, with each week dedicated to exploring a new topic to enhance recovery skills. Participants can anticipate a blend of education, self-reflection, and group discussion.
Part A: Building Skills for Recovery covers:
- Self-care and self-acceptance
- Cultivating positive self-talk
- Understanding the impact of stigma and discrimination
- Nurturing friendships and relationships
- Fostering self-compassion
- Practicing mindfulness and relaxation techniques
Part B: Strengthening Skills for Recovery addresses:
- Deepening mindfulness and compassion practices
- Establishing routines for self-care
- Exploring identity and connection
- Addressing stigma and discrimination
- Enhancing resilience
- Identifying core values and purpose
Discovering the Healthy Self workshops are held at different times during the year.
National Strategy Standards and Actions
Treatment
Standard 2: Treatment services routinely offer or refer to early and brief community interventions for people with binge-eating disorder, bulimia nervosa, OSFED (excluding atypical anorexia nervosa), UFED, and sub-threshold eating disorders where clinically indicated.
Action 2.1 Treatment providers to be trained and supported to provide early and/or brief interventions for people with binge-eating disorder, bulimia nervosa, OSFED (excluding atypical anorexia nervosa), UFED, and sub-threshold eating disorders where clinically indicated.
