Eating Disorders: Screening and Assessment


This half-hour video module is aimed at health and helping professionals and provides professional development about screening and assessment of eating disorders. Learning outcomes include:

  • Ability to recognise the signs of disordered eating and eating disorders and describe the associated health risks;
  • Ability to take a preliminary case history, use screening and assessment tools and assess for safety;
  • Understanding of the high levels of fear and change in people with eating disorders;
  • Understanding of barriers to self-disclosure and strategies to deal with these barriers;
  • Ability to refer people with eating disorders to relevant community based, secondary or tertiary services, including responding to critical cases;
  • Ability to engage parents, carers and significant others and assess their concerns when a person may be minimising their eating disorder.
