"Emotional Validation and Self-Compassion: Getting to the Crux of Collaborative Care in Eating Disorder Treatment",  presented by Josie Geller
Cost: Members - $75, Non-Members - $90

Workshop Overview:

Self-compassion, or a sensitivity to one’s suffering with an aspiration to reduce it, is associated with resilience, emotional well-being, and recovery from a wide range of physical and mental health conditions, including eating disorders (ED). Unfortunately, significant barriers to self-compassion have been identified in this population, and their presence is associated with poorer psychological and physical health, and with benefitting less from inpatient and outpatient treatment.

This workshop will review research on self-compassion and barriers to self-compassion in individuals with EDs. A model describing levels of validation that are helpful in overcoming these barriers will be reviewed. The oft-neglected role of family members of adults with eating disorders will be described, including how family members can be assisted to offer optimal support to their adult loved one.

Upcoming Workshops

30 May - "The Therapeutic Relationship" presented by Tom Wooldridge

13 and 27 June - "DBT Skills Training (Change and Acceptance Skills)" presented by Lucene Wisniewski
