Day 2: Seeing The Whole Picture: Personalised Strategies for Healing Body Image: Day 2 (Live or Recorded)

Day 2: Seeing The Whole Picture: Personalised Strategies for Healing Body Image: Day 2 (Live or Recorded)

About this event

Day 2: Continuing body image work: Diving deeper and creating new narratives

Day 2 of this body image training will focus on expanding and digging deeper, exploring how to integrate understandings of the individual’s past, life events, modelling, comments and pivotal moments to continue to work on reducing body dissatisfaction and promote body satisfaction. We consider ways layers of socio-cultural factors set the scene for body dissatisfaction to grow and how to make changes and buffer from some of these harmful messages. We explore specific skills and therapeutic techniques to support people to move away from narratives such as ‘my body is a problem’ to ‘we have a cultural problem with bodies'.

Learning outcomes

Building on the foundations from day one, this advanced training will help you deepen your understanding and enhance your skills in body image work. In Day 2, you will:

  • Develop an advanced understanding of body image treatment principles and how to apply them in practice
  • Draw on the personalised visual metaphor introduced on Day One to explore how past experiences, vulnerability factors, and socio-cultural influences interact to underpin and maintain body dissatisfaction
  • Expand your knowledge of the complex layers of cultural influence and the ongoing cultural climate that contribute to body dissatisfaction
  • Learn how to apply therapeutic strategies that support healing from past events that have impacted body image and foster change
  • Discover ways to support and empower clients to shift their cultural micro-climates and create buffers against harmful broader societal messages
  • Build confidence in facilitating therapeutic conversations and co-creating new, more compassionate narratives about the body.

Dr Sarah Egan and Dr Amanda Bolton bring deep experience to this space, not only in working to improve body image for people with diverse bodies, neurotypes, and lived experiences, but also in delivering highly engaging, practical, and memorable clinician training.
