Welcome to Foundations in Eating Disorders: Identification eLearning
This practical, foundational training is designed for health professionals across healthcare settings, including GPs, nurses, allied health professionals, mental health clinicians, and others who may encounter eating disorders or disordered eating in their practice.
It is designed to equip health professionals with the knowledge and skills to identify eating disorders early, respond safely and effectively, and support a person to engage in an appropriate initial response. It focuses on building confidence, practical skills, and understanding of your role in the stepped system of care for eating disorders.
The Sections
Across the five sections, you will explore:
- Section 1: Your role as an identified
Understand your role within the stepped system of care for eating disorders.
- Section 2: Understanding eating disorders
Build your understanding of different eating disorder presentations, factors that contribute to their development, and their potential impacts.
- Section 3: Who experiences an eating disorder?
Recognise populations at higher risk or often under-recognised and learn about conditions that commonly co-occur with eating disorders.
- Section 4: Warning signs
Learn to identify key warning signs of disordered eating and eating disorders.
- Section 5: Engage with someone to support help seeking
Develop the skills and confidence to have supportive conversations and help connect people to an appropriate initial response.
This eLearning is aligned with the NEDC Workforce Core Competencies, and the Stepped System of Care for Eating Disorders, providing health professionals with a structured, evidence-informed pathway to improving early identification skills.

Accessing the Training
Foundations in Eating Disorders: Identification is available for $15.00 AUD to all NEDC members.
How to access the training:
1. Log in or become a member of NEDC (membership with NEDC is free)
2. Once you are logged in, go to your personal dashboard on the NEDC website
3. On your personal dashboard, click 'Start Course' or 'Continue Course' to access the training
4. You will be directed to NEDC's learning management system, where you can purchase the course: Foundations in Eating Disorders: Identification
