Welcome to Foundations in Eating Disorders: Initial Response eLearning
A prompt, skilled initial response can be pivotal for someone experiencing an eating disorder. Early engagement, access to an initial assessment, preliminary diagnosis, and timely referral to appropriate services are essential to support safety and improve health and quality of life outcomes.
This eLearning is designed to support GP’s, mental health professionals and dietitians build the skillset needed to provide an initial response to someone who may be experiencing an eating disorder. It includes real-life scenarios and activities, expert videos, insights from people with lived experience, up-to-date resources, and a formal assessment to consolidate learning.
The Modules
Across the four modules, you will explore:
- Engagement and Assessment
- Referral pathways
- Psychoeducation
- Safety Monitoring and Harm Reduction
This eLearning is aligned with the NEDC Workforce Core Competencies, and the Stepped System of Care for Eating Disorders, providing health professionals with a structured, evidence-informed pathway to improving early identification skills.

Accessing the Training
Foundations in Eating Disorders: Initial Response is available for $15.00 AUD to all NEDC members.
How to access the training:
1. Log in or become a member of NEDC (membership with NEDC is free)
2. Once you are logged in, go to your personal dashboard on the NEDC website
3. On your personal dashboard, click 'Start Course' or 'Continue Course' to access the training
4. You will be directed to NEDC's learning management system, where you can purchase the course: Foundations in Eating Disorders: Initial Response
