FBT + UP for ARFID

FBT + UP for ARFID

About this event

Dr Claire Burton presents 12 hours of live in-person online training in FBT + UP for ARFID via Zoom (times are AEDT)

Increasing numbers of children and adolescents are presenting for treatment of Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID). Recognised as a heterogeneous condition, ARFID is more likely to present at an earlier age and be associated with comorbid mood or anxiety disorders, compared to anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa.

This workshop will provide an overview of the varied ARFID presentations, and guide clinicians on assessment and formulation of ARFID in children and adolescents. It will also present an innovative treatment that combines an adapted form of Family-Based Treatment (FBT) for ARFID, together with the Unified Protocols for Transdiagnostic Treatment of Emotional Disorders in Children and Adolescents (UP-C/A), a manualized, transdiagnostic cognitive-behavioural treatment.

This interactive workshop will begin with a didactic overview of the literature and assessment process. It will then move onto description of the treatment model/goals, utilising case examples of patients/families who have benefitted from this treatment model. Interactive role plays/breakout rooms and videos will be used to demonstrate delivery of this integrative approach for differing ARFID presentations.

Learning outcomes: By completing the training participants will:

• Understanding how ARFID presents in young people and how it differs from other paediatric eating disorders

• Develop enhanced mental health assessment and formulation skills specific to ARFID presentations

• Learn how to develop goals specific to ARFID treatment and implement Family-Based Treatment (FBT) and the Unified Protocols for Transdiagnostic Treatment of Emotional Disorders in Children and Adolescents (UP-C/A) for ARFID, or FBT + UP
