Body Image & Eating Disorders
Body Image & Eating Disorders
About this event
Presented by CEED Senior Clinicians Rhiannon Griggs and Dr Samara Wilson and delivered over one full day – Live Online.
Thursday May 18, 2023
9.30am-4pm
Body Image (BI) concerns and associated distress are well-established features of eating disorders. Despite this, consumers report current treatment often does not directly address these concerns, and thus exacerbates their feelings of being misunderstood. In addition, it can often be difficult for clinicians to know how and when to discuss body image concerns in treatment. Helping adults and their supports to feel validated, and tolerate body image distress in the earlier stages of treatment is an important factor in eating disorders treatment and recovery.
The workshop aims to have participants gain:
- Increased ability to understand and formulate body image concerns as part of the overall clinical presentation for adults living with an eating disorder
- Increased understanding of the impacts of diet culture and weight based stigma for people living with an eating disorder and their supports
- Increased capacity to address body image concerns with adults in eating disorders treatment
The training will involve didactic, interactive and experiential practice opportunities. Introductory knowledge of understanding and assessing eating disorders is assumed.
Target Audience: Health Professionals working with adults experiencing an eating disorder. Registrations from clinicians employed by Victorian public mental health services will be prioritised.
Training prerequisite: If you have not completed introductory eating disorders training, or this is a new area of work for you, prior to attending the training please access and watch the following introductory to eating disorders resources (2 x 30min recordings) freely available via the National Eating Disorders Collaboration (NEDC).
