A Story of Hope and Recovery from Binge Eating Disorder

A Story of Hope and Recovery from Binge Eating Disorder

About this event

Jo Farmer will share her lived experience journey of mental illness, including Binge Eating Disorder.

Jo has a strong focus on designing and driving systemic change and supporting the development of a health and social services system that puts people at the centre. She has provided submissions to the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System, focused on her own experiences of accessing treatment in the Victorian system, and to the Productivity Commission into Mental Health, focused on workplace mental health.

Jo’s story, based on her submission, was also featured in the Interim Report of the Royal Commission. In addition to her writing, Jo is currently:

  • co-chair of the Measurement Technical Advisory Group for the development of the National Stigma and Discrimination Reduction Strategy
  • a lived experience representative on the Guidelines Working Group for the National Eating Disorder Collaboration’s development of Guidelines for the treatment of eating disorders for people living in larger bodies
  • a lived experience representative on the Advisory Group for Clinical guidelines for the diagnosis and management of work-related mental health conditions in general practice
  • She is also on the Faculty of the Zero Suicide Institute of Australasia, and has used her lived experience to develop and deliver training on evaluating approaches to zero suicide in care.
