Calculating Treatment Target Weights in FBT

Calculating Treatment Target Weights in FBT

About this event

Presented by CEED Senior Clinicians Dani Waddell, Bliss Jackman, Gareth Sherring, and Dr Suba Rudolph (Consultant Paediatrician)
Delivered online via Zoom
12:30pm – 1:30pm, Wednesday July 26

As clinicians in the field of eating disorders, we acknowledge that sometimes calculating treatment target weights can feel out of our scope of practise and this can create a bit of uncertainty for clinicians. In this webinar, we aim to provide more detailed information to help you confidently calculate and communicate treatment target weight ranges to young people, families/carers and wider care team members. As our field has grown, the method for calculating treatment target weight ranges has also evolved, incorporating current research and lived experience perspectives.

We have clear guidelines to support clinicians in providing individualised weight ranges for families and young people. In this webinar, we discuss how these target weight ranges can change, and highlight the importance of young people continuing grow and develop throughout childhood, adolescence and into young adulthood. Key challenges faced by care teams and families will also be reflected on in this webinar from both clinician and lived experience perspectives.

Learning Objectives:

  • Be able to use population growth charts.
  • Be able to calculate treatment target weight ranges (and view these as moving targets).
  • Be able to apply key learning to more complex presentations.
  • Have the ability to use appropriate language to convey “numbers” to young people and their families.
  • Have increased confidence in being able to have conversations with wider care teams
