About this event

ANZAED Virtual Workshop: Evidence-informed dietetic practice with Angela Mignone

Date: 21 and 22 March 2024

Time: 9:30am - 5:00pm AEDT (Melb/Sydney)

This 2-day workshop will equip dietitians with theoretical knowledge and practical skills to provide safe and effective treatment for people experiencing an eating disorder. There will be a focus on understanding and applying current dietetic and clinical practices and standards in the treatment of eating disorders across community and inpatient settings.

This workshop is designed for dietitians across all care settings who would like to develop their capacity and confidence in providing care to individuals with eating disorders and disordered eating. It is suited to dietitians with limited experience in eating disorder care, and those already supporting individuals living with an eating disorder who want to refresh their knowledge and consolidate skills in delivery of current evidence-informed dietetic interventions for eating disorders.

This interactive workshop will apply theory to practice through a range of group activities, discussion and case studies.

Participants will be equipped to:

  • Recognise and respond to signs of disordered eating
  • Complete dietetic screening and comprehensive nutritional assessment in relation to eating disorders
  • Understand the impact of weight bias and stigma and apply a weight inclusive approach in assessment and treatment
  • Apply a range of evidence-informed frameworks for delivery of dietetic interventions to support nutritional rehabilitation and to normalise eating
  • Understand the role of the dietitian within a multi-disciplinary team in the stepped system of care, including the dietitian’s scope of practice to provide safe and effective treatment for people experiencing an eating disorder
  • Understand and apply key communication and counselling skills to assist in building therapeutic relationships and motivating clients to engage with treatment
