Understanding Tween's Social Media & Body Image Webinar

Understanding Tween's Social Media & Body Image Webinar

About this event

Did you know that 90% of young people are reporting some form of body dissatisfaction, and 1 in 3 are extremely concerned? Half of all young people are reporting that social media is having a negative impact on their body image - leading to feelings of less body appreciation, desire to be thinner and even less satisfaction in life (especially for young girls). Tweens are particularly susceptible to social media pressure due to their stage of development yet most adults are not equipped to understand how to navigate this world of ‘Get Ready With Me’ videos, beauty tutorials, requests for Drunk Elephant, and social pressure for parents to visit Sephora or Mecca to purchase elaborate beauty regimes.  In this 90 min webinar, you will learn: What are the problems and potential benefits of social media use for tweens Why social media is so influential for this age group Understand the most relevant platforms, content and trends The role social media plays in body image And most importantly, learn real-world practical strategies to support young people and families to reduce the harms and increase body satisfaction while navigating the social media space Dr Sarah Egan and Dr Amanda Bolton are clinical psychologists, owners of Eating Disorders Training Australia (working in prevention and treatment of eating disorders and training/consultation for clinicians and organisations), clinical supervisors and parents. They have presented on webinars, conferences, national radio and developed a training and workbook in the social media and body image space. They are passionate about eating disorder prevention and helping young people develop a healthy relationship with their bodies and food. June 20, 9-10:30am Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST). Q & A available for live attendees (not recorded). A recording is provided with access for 1 month following the webinar for attendees who cannot attend live to watch back.
