Kindly Do, Kindly Dont: How to safely talk about and report on eating disorders and body image

Kindly Do, Kindly Dont: How to safely talk about and report on eating disorders and body image

About this event

Ahead of Body Image and Eating Disorders Awareness Week (BIEDAW) - 2-8 September 2024 – Think HQ and Butterfly Foundation invite media professionals, communicators and marketers (and anyone interested!) to learn the best-practices when talking about, reporting on and portraying eating disorders and body image in the media, campaigns, content and everyday life.

While general awareness of eating disorders has increased, deeper understanding remains low and misconceptions and stigma continues to be high. We can all play an important role in improving understanding, shifting conversation, dismantling harmful stereotypes and increasing help seeking. In particular, the media can have a positive impact when it comes to ensuring eating disorders and body image are not covered in harmful and triggering ways.

The webinar will be hosted by Alexandra La Sala, Think HQ's Public Relations Account Director and we will hear from Kate Mulray, Butterfly’s Lived Experience Engagement Manager, along side voices of lived experience Lumen Gorrie, Jane Murphy, and Lexi Crouch.

We will explore the real-life impact of problematic comments and reporting, with a focus on Butterfly’s Kindly ‘Dos and Don’ts’ - tangible actions everyone can take to help us work towards a more Body Kind Australia.
