Two ANZAED 2024 Virtual Workshops by Mandy Goldstein: Trauma Informed Care (1) and Trauma & EDs: Introduction to case conceptualisation (2)

About this event

Workshop 1- Trauma Informed Care.

29 November, 9am – 12:30pm

This workshop is open to anyone working in an environment where those who have experienced trauma may seek care/support. It will introduce the key concepts of trauma and the differences between TIC and trauma treatment, as well as support attendees to understand the impact of trauma from a multitude of perspectives. It will introduce the principles of TIC, presenting ideas around how we can start to reconsider our environments to ensure they are trauma informed; and to recalibrate our responses to what we might consider “challenging” client behaviour, from a trauma informed lens. Case examples will be provided with opportunity for small group discussion

Workshop 2 – Trauma and EDs: Introduction to case conceptualisation.

6 December, 9a, 1:30pm AEDT

This introductory workshop for mental health professionals therefore aims to provide an overview of the research on trauma and EDs to date, and an understanding of both PTSD and complex trauma presentations, and how they might impact someone with an ED in different ways. The key focus of the workshop will be on developing skills to formulate in more complex ways, when this comorbidity is present, and to start to consider a framework for treatment that is both evidence based and evidence informed. The workshop will assume an understanding of eating disorders and their treatment, and will focus on the provision of ideas from the research on trauma, introducing clinicians to the field more broadly, and hopes to encourage clinicians towards further learning of specific skills to treat trauma, when present. Discussion will be illustrated with case examples and practical strategies for more complex case conceptualisation in guiding clinical work.
