Beyond CBT: Binge Eating Disorder (BED) Masterclass (CBT-BED)

Beyond CBT: Binge Eating Disorder (BED) Masterclass (CBT-BED)

BodyMatters Australasia

About this event

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) remains the gold-standard, first-line treatment for Binge Eating Disorder (BED). This training highlights the quintessential differences between the traditional CBT-E and newer CBT-BED treatment protocols with specific attention to an adjusted formulation and treatment modules relevant to a diagnoses of BED.The training enhances knowledge of treating BED in contemporary practice, including (i) building understanding about metabolic health, and (ii) working with individuals at higher body weight when it is the clients desire for weight loss, and/or explicit medical instruction for weight loss co-occurs with eating disorder treatment.

This interactive workshop equips eating disorder clinicians with advanced tools to confidently navigate modern treatment landscapes. Centred on the latest evidence-based framework from Riccardo Dalle Grave’s landmark manual, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Binge Eating Disorder (2024), alongside the refined international definitions of clinical obesity (The Lancet, 2025), this course bridges the gap between psychological eating disorder protocols and metabolic health. You will gain practical, cutting-edge strategies to enhance client engagement, integrate psychological and nutritional care, and master complex, real-world case management with clinical authority.

Learning Objectives:

By completing this workshop, you will acquire actionable skills to:

  1. Understand contemporary BED treatment protocols: Deepen your diagnostic and formulation skills, clearly distinguishing the psychological and behavioural mechanisms of BED from Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa
  2. Deliver CBT-BED interventions: Gain hands-on competence in deploying treatment modules specific to CBT-BED—including managing overeating and dysregulated eating, addressing reward-based eating, dismantling internalised weight bias, structuring helpful food environments, supporting sustainable movement, and setting realistic, client-centred goals
  3. Bridge treatment frameworks with confidence: Master the skill of navigating diverse clinical perspectives—from clinical obesity management to weight-neutral/HAES approaches—to foster seamless, collaborative partnerships between eating disorder clinicians and medical care teams
  4. Navigate complex comorbidities: Build confidence in working with common metabolic and endocrine comorbidities (such as Type 2 diabetes, fatty liver, and PMOS/ PCOS), equipping you to better deliver holistic, integrative care
  5. Guide client conversations on weight and medical interventions with more confidence: Build your self-efficacy in facilitating nuanced, collaborative dialogues regarding client-expressed goals for weight management, evaluating the psychological considerations of adjunctive medical/pharmacological therapies, and aligning treatment accordingly
