Stretch and Learn Workshop
Stretch and Learn Workshop
Integrity Initiative
About this event
Stretch and Learn is a three-hour workshop combining learning about weight inclusive health, body neutrality and the history of diet culture. It shares the importance of language and delivers practical tips on how to respectfully, authentically and honestly be present in conversations around eating disorders, disordered eating, body image concerns and mental health. The event will feature an interactive micro-workshop discussing:
- The importance of language when discussing mental health, bodies, eating disorders and food.
- How to shift weight normative perspectives of health and wellbeing into weight inclusive and neutral.
- Deepening compassion and empathy for people experiencing eating disorders and disordered eating and challenging common stereotypes.
- The origins of diet culture and its roots in capitalism, consumerism and profit.
- Practical tips for talking about weight, shape, bodies, food and more.
This will be paired with reflective activities, a gentle guided yoga session led by Lived Experience expert Elaine Ashurst, and a neutral morning tea. Stretch and Learn is brought to life by an integrity Initiative, a youth-led mental health movement to cultivate autonomy, dignity and human rights in mental health conversations and care. It is shaped by and with Lived Experience Experts, informed by the latest data and through meaningful collaboration.
