Body Project Online Facilitator Training: Gold-standard eating disorder prevention and body image

Body Project Online Facilitator Training: Gold-standard eating disorder prevention and body image

EVERYBODY Consulting

About this event

The Body Project is one of only two programs in the world proven to prevent eating disorders. No other body image program has this level of independent research behind it.

This training will prepare you to deliver the program with confidence. It is interactive and practical, not a passive webinar. You'll learn in a small group (max 12 people) with Professor Phillippa Diedrichs, a world-leading body image and prevention researcher, Fellow of the Academy for Eating Disorders, and award-winning educator, author and speaker. Professor Diedrichs has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers and was trained by The Body Project's original creators, Drs Eric Stice and Carolyn Becker. She has also led international research trials on its effectiveness.

This is a chance to learn from someone at the forefront of evidence-based body image and prevention programming.

You'll complete a self-paced module and attend live Zoom sessions where you'll practice facilitating and receive direct feedback. By the end, you'll be equipped to run Body Project sessions in your community, delivering a programme shown to reduce body dissatisfaction, disordered eating, and low mood for years after participation.

"This is the only training in my life where I feel able and qualified to apply my new learning directly in my community in such a short timespan. It's very empowering!" (Emma H., Coach)

The training also includes 12 months of ongoing support: programme manuals, recruitment templates, tools to measure your impact, a private online community, and invitations to follow-on expert webinars.

About The Body Project

The Body Project is a group programme for teenagers and young adults. It runs over four one-hour sessions and can be delivered in schools, universities, or community settings. Developed at Stanford University and Trinity University, it has now reached over 4.5 million people in 136 countries.

The programme works through cognitive dissonance. Participants challenge unrealistic appearance ideals through discussions, role plays, and exercises. Because they take an active role rather than simply listening, they shift their own beliefs and behaviours. This is far more effective than traditional education or awareness campaigns.

Research published in leading journals shows participants experience lasting reductions in body dissatisfaction, negative mood, dieting, and disordered eating, with benefits maintained for up to three years.

The Body Project is one of only two programmes proven to prevent eating disorders from developing, not just reduce risk. And it can be delivered by a wide range of people, including teachers, nurses, counsellors, and youth workers, after just one to two days of training.

Cost: Please note price is in AUD and includes GST

Requirement

This training is for any adult interested in supporting young people with their body image. There are no specific qualifications needed; research shows The Body Project can be delivered effectively by community providers after training. For example, we regularly train mental health support workers, school nurses, counsellors, coaches, community advocates, psychologists, teachers, eating disorder specialists, and parents.

University students studying in related fields such as psychology, education, physiotherapy, nutrition, or medicine also attend, as the training offers practical, hands-on experience and an opportunity to make an immediate impact while studying. Research confirms that university students can be effectively trained to deliver The Body Project to both peers and adolescents in schools.
