Multi-Diagnostic Eating Disorders–Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (MED-DBT)
Multi-Diagnostic Eating Disorders–Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (MED-DBT)
CENTRE FOR EATING, WEIGHT & BODY IMAGE
About this event
This training provides an overview of the MED-DBT (Multi-Diagnostic Eating Disorder – DBT) treatment model, designed specifically for clinicians working in the eating disorder field. DBT is introduced from first principles and is taught through an eating-disorder lens throughout. The training supports clinicians to understand how DBT conceptualises risk, behaviour change, and treatment engagement, and how these principles are adapted within MED-DBT for complex and high-risk eating disorder presentations.
The focus is on developing a coherent conceptual framework for applying DBT within eating disorder treatment, alongside practical strategies that can be integrated into existing clinical roles and service contexts.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
-
Describe the core principles, assumptions, and structure of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy.
-
Understand the rationale for applying DBT to complex and high-risk eating disorder presentations.
-
Formulate eating disorder presentations within a DBT framework and apply DBT target hierarchies to eating disorder behaviours.
-
Identify how DBT skills and strategies are adapted and used within MED-DBT-informed treatment.
Requirement
This training is not intended as:
-
An advanced or specialist training for clinicians already trained in DBT who may be seeking advanced DBT-for-eating-disorders training. It is an introductory level DBT training and assumes no prior DBT training or experience.
-
An introductory training in eating disorder assessment /treatment for clinicians new to the eating disorder field. It assumes prior knowledge of Eating Disorders theories and treatment practices and will not go over basics of these.
Speakers
Audience
This training is designed for clinicians who already have a solid working knowledge of eating disorders and standard treatment approaches who are seeking an introduction to how DBT is applied to eating disorder treatment using the MED-DBT protocol. No prior DBT training is required.
