Residential treatment is used as a step-up from community-based or community-based intensive treatment if the person is medically stable and requires a structured inpatient eating disorder program, or as a step-across from hospital treatment if the person is medically stable, as part of transitioning back to community care. Residential treatment is delivered by both public and private providers, and currently available in four states:

  • Queensland: Wandi Nerida
  • New South Wales: Baiyangbaiyand
  • Victoria
  • ACT:

Australia’s first specialist residential eating disorder centre delivers person-centred treatment and a bridge between hospital admission and outpatient care. Set in a beautiful, healing environment, Wandi Nerida is open to anyone in Australia or the world.

baiyangbaiyang (NSW)

baiyangbaiyaang is a specialist eating disorder service incorporating the NSW Residential Eating Disorders Centre (located in Charlestown) and the Eating Disorders Day Program (located in Newcastle). Both programs are located and operated within Hunter New England Local Health District and accept referrals from across NSW.

Ngamai Wilam (Vic)

This is a specialised centre providing trauma and recovery-focused eating disorder care in a therapeutic, home-like residential environment. It provides support to anyone in Victoria aged 18 and over, for a minimum of four weeks to 12 weeks.

Eating Disorders Residential Treatment Centre (ACT)

The Eating Disorders Residential Treatment Centre (EDRTC) provides 24 hour a day care for the psychological and physical recovery of people with eating disorders. The EDRTC is modelled on a residential home, with a peaceful outlook, bedrooms and shared living spaces. The centre provides specialist, intensive nutritional and psychological treatment with medical monitoring and 24/7 nursing support for a period up to three months.
