Emotion Focused Skills Training (EFST) for Carers Workshop: Navigating emotions in treatment and recovery of eating disorders
About this event
This workshop will help parents, carers and partners identify and manage their own emotions and assist them to identify and support their loved one navigate their emotions in the context of treatment and recovery from an eating disorder. This interactive workshop will provide the opportunity to practice skills with other parents, carers and partners whilst in the support of mental health and eating disorders specialist clinicians.
Program Content
•Emotions – Learn to navigate emotions and develop self-efficacy in attending to emotions. Learn the skill of validation to support your loved one through difficult emotions and decrease resistance to support.
•Motivation – Enhance motivation to change with emotion focused techniques. Learn about how you and your loved one are “built” to better understand how patterns in relationship continue.
•Relationships – Transform your relationships by understanding your current boundary setting style and learning the skills of effective limit setting. Learn how apologising can heal and transform relationships.
Please note, this is not skills training for providing eating disorder treatment. This training is designed for those who have foundational understanding of eating disorders and treatment principles but struggle to make changes in treatment due to the emotional reaction or impact of emotions on themselves or their loved one.

Requirement
This workshop is for Queensland residents only. This workshop is being held online and participants will need access to a computer and webcam.
Speakers
Audience
Parents, carers and partners (aged 18 years and over) living in Queensland who are supporting a loved one with an eating disorder. This workshop is not suitable for people currently experiencing an eating disorder.
