About this event
The training will introduce attendees to the evidence for integrated psychological therapies with physical health care in people with eating disorders who are of a higher weight. Key modifications and extensions to Cognitive Behaviour Therapy Enhanced (CBT-E) will be presented and there will be training in this manualised therapy, including psychoeducation regarding the intersection between eating and weight disorders and importance of language, specific skills such as intuitive eating and hunger satiety regulation, activity therapy and exercise, nutritional counselling for people with a higher weight, and the role of the psychotherapist within a multidisciplinary team where weight loss treatments, including bariatric surgery and GLP-1 agonists may be employed.
Prerequisite: There is an expectation that attendees will have received previous training in cognitive behaviour therapy for people with eating disorders (CBT-E).

- Appreciation of the intersection between eating disorders and high weight conditions.\r\n- Attaining psychological therapy skills developed for integrated manualised care for people with an eating disorder who are of a higher weight.
- Understanding the role of the psychotherapist within a multidisciplinary and predominantly physical health care setting for people with weight related medical morbidity.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER
Professor Hay, FRANZCP, MD, DPhil, FAED, is an academic psychiatrist who is recognised internationally for her expertise in reducing the personal and public health burden of eating disorders. She has a long-standing commitment to the understanding of “what works” in the field and has been a lead investigator on several major randomised controlled trials of psychological therapies for eating disorders. Her initial training was in dynamic therapy and systems family therapy, followed by the Oxford CBT and IPT therapies. She has over 400 peer reviewed publications, written and co-edited several books, and has won several awards, including the Australian and New Zealand Academy Lifetime Achievement award in 2015. She is the founding co-Editor-in-Chief of the first online journal in the area (Journal of Eating Disorders). She works clinically in a metabolic unit at Camden Hospital.
Requirement
There is an expectation that attendees will have received previous training in cognitive behaviour therapy for people with eating disorders (CBT-E).
General knowledge of eating disorders is assumed. Participants also need to complete the Inside Out Institute’s Eating Disorders Essentials Training, the National Eating Disorders Collaboration Training, or equivalent training as a minimum prerequisite.

This workshop is designed for clinicians with foundational knowledge of eating disorders. The training is suitable for practitioners seeking to develop an understanding of HAPIFED (a Healthy APproach to weIght management and Food in Eating Disorders), including its therapeutic strategies, clinical application, evidence base, and how it compares with other evidence-based psychotherapy approaches. Participants are expected to have completed the InsideOut Institute’s Eating Disorders Essentials Training, National Eating Disorders Collaboration training, or equivalent introductory education as well as training in cognitive behavioural therapy for people with eating disorders.
